About 4a manufacturing

4a manufacturing GmbH is part of the 4a group and is the world leader in the production of “micro-sandwich” materials for the consumer electronic market since more than 10 years. This technology enables innovative lightweight designs for panel or shell constructions, by substituting monolithic materials like metals or fiber composites with thin sandwich materials. Based on the flexible material composition, it’s possible to use CIMERA® for many other specific application fields like automotive, rail, aviation etc. Major part for the creation of an innovative sandwich material is the selection of the right core material. 4a manufacturing developed a ground-breaking technology for the production of thin hard foam sheets, called MILLIFOAM®, out of commercial available foam materials.

Core competence of the 4a manufacturing is the design and production of thin sandwich materials, offered by the trademark CIMERA®. The goal of CIMERA® is to reduce the weight of thin components (starting at 0.20mm) made of monolithic materials like steel, aluminum, GFRP or CFRP, by replacing them with a cost-efficient sandwich design.

An important factor for creating a high-performance sandwich material is the choice of the right core layer. The 4a manufacturing product MILLIFOAM® is a very thin hard foam sheet, which can be used as core layer for sandwich materials. These foam sheets are available in different thicknesses (starting at 0.15mm) and are obtained from commercially available polymer grades (PET, PVC, PPE, PMI, PESU,…). With a suitable selection of MILLIFOAM® core materials and a wide range of experience in different production processes, it is possible to offer the best material for the customers` requirements.
